The St. Charles street railway is the oldest operating street line in the world, carrying passengers to and from Carrollton since 1835.
It began as a passenger train service that was conceived of by men who had invested in forming the town of Carrollton because they needed a way to get people from New Orleans to their new town. Their company was called the New Orleans & Carrollton Rail Road Co. and the first locomotives were named The New Orleans and The Carrollton.
